From mild to wild: Easter Week options from one extreme to another
Howard Rosenzweig
Honduras This Week

Photo: Don Peat/Honduras This Week
As February winds down towards the early days of June, temperatures in Honduras begin to rise, winter showers taper off and the landscape turns from lush green to a pale, dusty shade of brown. March and April, in addition to being the final throes of high tourist season, also signals the arrival of the annual Semana Santa or Easter Week holiday period when many take off for a long weekend of serious Central American style R&R. Christopher Padilla, Vice Secretary of Commerce from the U.S. visited Tegucigalpa to discuss CAFTA.
U.S. Foreign Trade and Commerce vice Secretary of State, Christopher Padilla, visited Tegucigalpa last week and then went on to Nicaragua and Costa Rica. According to a U.S. Embassy in Honduras press release, the visit was to review the implementation of the Free Trade Agreement between the U.S., the Dominican Republic and countries of Central America (CAFTA-RD). In addition, discussions were to take place regarding continuous efforts to fortify the agreement and the investment opportunities throughout the region. Full Article

Tony’s Mar celebrates 20 years in the restaurant business
It was by sheer coincidence that I found myself recently at Tony’s Mar on Blvd. Suyapa while they are celebrating their 20th anniversary. I was aware of the anniversary only because I glanced at, among others, full-page ads congratulating the restaurant a few days later. Anyway, the timing was perfect: it may be about time to revisit Tony’s Mar. They have been around for, well, 20 years now, which amounts to an institution in the food biz. Buen Provecho
To drive or not to drive, that is the question
Honduras This Week
None of the Honduran government proposals of the Strategic Energy and Fuel Saving Plan have created the controversy as “Today it does not drive” has. The new measure pretends to be imposed on all Honduras private cars in order to keep them from being driven one day of the week, excluding public transportation, official and emergency vehicles. DRAWING A BLANK
As I faced a blank computer screen trying to begin the thought process that brings me to write my weekly column, a man came to the office and handed me a beautiful, colorful invitation, finished off with a ribbon. It was a formal invitation to a quince ano (15th) birthday party, almost a month in advance. Now, this in itself is rare when a guest is actually given time to prepare for an event. The normal Roatan scenario is someone calls from the municipal saying that at 4 p.m. (that day) there will be a meeting in the town hall. A quick glance at a watch tells us it is 2:54 p.m.

FARC Releases Four Political Hostages
James W. Bodden
Honduras This Week

Photo: www.google.com
With Colombian aircraft patrolling the skies, FARC guerillas set free four hostages in rebel-controlled territory to representatives of the International Red Cross. A second successful mediation of Venezuelan premier Hugo Chavez has resulted in the unilateral handover of a set of Colombian legislators held under captivity for an excess of six years (Luis Eladio Pérez, Gloria Polanco de Lozada, Orlando Beltrán Cuellar and Jorge Eduardo Gechen); this event stands as a successive demonstration of his political clout with FARC narco-combatants. FIBROMYALGIA SYNDROME: Demystifying a debilitating disorder
Ivonne van Leest
Sports Physical Therapist
It took a long time before anybody gave fibromyalgia a name: the symptoms are fatigue along with pain or soreness of the muscles. Other common symptoms of this disorder often include sleeping disorders, morning stiffness and irritable bowel syndrome. Because of its complicity, it’s important to get a good diagnosis from a medical specialist, such as a rheumatologist or neurologist. This syndrome is more common in women then in men. Health Matters
Movie Review: ‘Gone Baby Gone’ is a solid debut by director Ben Affleck
Todd Ellertson
Honduras This Week

Photo: www.google.com
I went into this movie with a few pre-conceived notions: Ben Affleck is a movie star, not a director, and I am not a huge fan of his acting. He had a lot to prove. His younger brother Casey recently graced the screen in the brooding “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,” and impressed me with how well he did. I was expecting more of the same from Casey. Were my notions correct? Not entirely: Ben’s directorial debut was more than solid and Casey did end up delivering another great performance, as I suspected he would. Full Article
