Honduras This Week National NewsThe People’s Republic of China’s exponential political and economic growth is steadily expanding its field of influence over Latin America; the surge of the red Asian juggernaut forces the region to reevaluate its geopolitical allegiances and traditional commercial interests. This rise has been fuelled by support from anti-American, leftist regimes bent on reducing U.S. power in the subcontinent and promoting their own government-centralization agendas. Full Article

Travel & Tourism in HondurasConsult any guide book: Roatán with its “crystal clear waters” and “beautiful white sand beaches” makes a perfect island getaway for the discerning traveler. And what’s more, moderate prices for accommodation and recreation should ensure that Roatán retains its popularity. Tourists get paradise at a discount and Roatán benefits from increased revenues. Honduras This Week National NewsStem cell research: controversial and provocative, is most definitely a current ethical hot potato. The eastern end of the island is capped by a thin veneer of basaltic volcanic rocks. Full Article

Honduran soccer stars David Suazo (l) and Carlos Pavón (r)

Honduras This Week National NewsLast week’s MLS encounter between LA Galaxy and Chicago Fire, which ended in a comfortable 2-0 victory for ex-US international Alexei Lalas’ Californian outfit, may seem to have had little significance for Honduran soccer. Indeed, the fixture will doubtless have been seen by most as a muted precursor to the unveiling of former English captain David Beckham when Galaxy host Premiership giants Chelsea in an exhibition match on Saturday July 21st. President Zelaya Goes to Washington

Álvaro Morales Molina
Honduras This Week

Honduras This Week National NewsHonduran President Manuel Zelaya Rosales had a busy agenda during his trip to Washington, D.C. last week. On the top of his list was to discuss how to stop or slow the current massive deportation of Hondurans from the U.S. ¨Even though Bush administration immigration bill did not do well in Congress, it is important legislation and cannot be abandoned. We have expressed our concern as have all Central American presidents,¨ said the Honduran president to international press gathered at the White House during his visit. Full Article

Honduras This Week National NewsThere are always two sides to a coin; U.S. commercial and cultural influence on Honduras is no exception. Undoubtedly, many Hondurans have benefited from this influence. Current public transport in Tegucigalpa is owed to the U.S.: where would the city be without its fleet of old yellow school buses? How easy would it be to reach Copán, the Caribbean coast or the depths of Olancho without the ever-spreading web of luxury coach services? Full Article
