San Antonio de Oriente:
Almost Gone but Not Forgotten

One of the many San Antonio de Oriente landscapes created by Jose Antonio Velasquez

Travel & Tourism in HondurasJose Antonio Velasquez, a famous Honduran painter, was inspired to paint some of his best-known landscapes in the tiny mountain village of San Antonio de Oriente. This notoriety and viewing photos of his paintings compelled to me to recently visit the village myself. Two of my native Honduran friends, both born and raised in Tegucigalpa, were as keen as I was to check it out. Full Article

What I like about Honduras

Todd Ellertson
Honduras This Week

Honduras This Week National NewsI like that people here know and appreciate where things come from. The cereal I ate the other morning was from Guatemala. The fancy shoe store in the mall is Salvadorian. The elevator I rode was of German technology and manufacture. The belt I bought was from Colombia. The orange juice is grown and shipped from San Pedro Sula. People in the U.S. don’t know or seem to care where things are from. Could that be because it is a safe bet they (mistakenly) believe most everything is from the U.S.? Full Article

Chronicles of an Announced Death

Honduras This Week - Opinions and EditorialsGabriel Garcia Marquez, a Nobel Prize winning Colombian author, wrote a famous novel that had the same name as this column. In this book, published in 1981, Garcia Marquez describes a planned murder. Certain people knew to expect this death before it happened. One could draw a parallel between this predicted, announced death and the seemingly beneficial and necessary fuel bid process here in Honduras. It seemed, to most, that because of this process, fuel prices would moderate. Full Editorial

Pranic Healing: a Natural Compliment to Traditional Medicine

Carmen Guillén

Honduras This Week

Honduran CultureEvery time I have ever fallen ill, without fail, the first thing my doctor asks is if I have been under any stress lately. A friend of mine recently took a trip to the Honduras Medical Centre in Tegucigalpa and she was asked the same thing. I have always been interested in the idea that negative thought patterns can cause physical ailments but have dismissed it as something that could never really be proven. Full Article
